Waiting on Wednesday: The Perfect Nanny by Leïla Slimani

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine. Today we are waiting for The Perfect Nanny by Leïla Slimani!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you all have a great year! This week I have a fictional novel touching on important social issues.

Publication date: January 9th, 2018
Publisher: Penguin Books

She has the keys to their apartment. She knows everything. She has embedded herself so deeply in their lives that it now seems impossible to remove her.

When Myriam, a French-Moroccan lawyer, decides to return to work after having children, she and her husband look for the perfect nanny for their two young children. They never dreamed they would find Louise: a quiet, polite, devoted woman who sings to the children, cleans the family’s chic apartment in Paris’s upscale tenth arrondissement, stays late without complaint, and hosts enviable kiddie parties. But as the couple and the nanny become more dependent on one another, jealousy, resentment, and suspicions mount, shattering the idyllic tableau. Building tension with every page, The Perfect Nanny is a compulsive, riveting, bravely observed exploration of power, class, race, domesticity, and motherhood—and the American debut of an immensely talented writer.

The #1 international bestseller and winner of France’s most prestigious literary prize, the Goncourt.

First of all, I wanted to say sorry for missing last week's WoW. I was out of town and with the holidays I completely forgot that I didn't have a WoW scheduled. I'm sorry about that.

Now, for this week's WoW I have something completely different. A pure fiction novel! Not sci-fi, not fantasy, etc but just fiction. It's not a genre we touch that much but the synopsis reminded me a bit of The Help and I think it is always important from time to time to read books like that one... because it's history, it's not "just fiction" it's actually closer to modern society and we still have many social issues to fix so if books can open our eyes in a quick but powerful way... why not? It's important to read all genres even if it's just punctual books ;)

Are you excited about The Perfect Nanny?
